Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende
Anita Graser studied geomatics at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt, Austria, from where she graduated with a master's degree in 2010. During her studies, she gained hands-on experience in the fields of geo-marketing and transportation research. Since 2007, she has been working as a geographic information systems (GIS) expert with the dynamic transportation systems group at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), where she focuses on analyzing and visualizing spatio-temporal data. Anita serves on the OSGeo board of directors and the QGIS project steering committee. She has been working with GIS since 2005, provides QGIS training courses, and writes a popular blog on open source GIS at anitagraser.com.

I like the consequent raising approach of Anita Graser and the helpful hints to perform general GIS tasks with this Software. Though i use GIS software since years the book helped me to find some easier workflows in my daily work. The Third Edition refers to the long-term release 2.14 of this well known and widely spread Open Source Software GIS and is therefore good for companies as well. Anita Graser gives a contingnously raising insight into the core functionalities of the Software. Especially for non GIS professional like IT Professionals, Marketing experts, who are not familiar with GIS, the book gives a practical insight to start with. Installation and setup, viewing data, creating and analysing vector data , creating great maps, up to working with raster data like satellite imagery. The last chapters deal with the QGIS introduces into the very dynamic and powerful python programming language, always along practical tutorials. I can recommend it to those of you, who want to perform GIS tasks without buying expensive Software licenses to start supporting business tasks by adding the "spatial" perspective.
